Telemetry Instruments

Telemetry Instruments provide the solution to the common need to transmit data reliably, quickly and cost effectively from remote locations. Valeport offer a range of instruments from short range Bluetooth modules, medium range VHF/UHF radio modules and range independent GSM/GPRS modules. These can be housed in rugged housings for shore based communications or mounted on buoy/platforms for offshore installations.

For storage and publishing of your data, Valeport recommend Port-Log from the UK based OceanWise who are an independent company specialising in marine environmental data acquisition, management, publishing and GIS. You can view an example of this service in use from our own Dart Network which employs numerous tide gauges and meteorological sensors at three sites on the River Dart.

Data Telemetry Unit

Valeport’s GPRS data telemetry solution is supplied in our robust IP67 housing, which also contains an internal battery pack for total autonomy. Compatible with most Valeport products as well as some other third party products, these GPRS telemetry units are designed to provide data files from the instrument to third party Internet / FTP sites and data display services.
The units are supplied pre-configured with a pay as you go SIM from GO-SIM. (http://www.gosim.com/), these SIM cards provide GPRS coverage in ~80 countries (subject to coverage). While these cards may not be the most cost-effective solution in a particular country they allow a great deal of flexibility and on average in Europe, data costs are ~ £0.01 per transmission. Port Log

Port-Log is a quick and easy storage and publishing solution for environmental data acquired by different monitoring techniques and sensors. It is offered by OceanWise as an on-line Service or as part of a comprehensive System deployed on your servers. Port-Log is designed to be instrument and transmission independent, so that it can be used flexibly and comprehensively within most applicable environments. More Info

Model 750 Data Telemetry Buoy

The Model 750 Telemetry Buoy is the ideal accessory for Valeport's Wave Recorders, and other Valeport instrumentation, with its fully bi-directional UHF link between instrument and PC. The buoy is of classic spar design, with a rigid floatation unit. All electronics and battery are held in a submerged stainless steel pod, which also has a connector for communications with the instrument, and mounting points for a strain cable. With an omnidirectional antenna and selectable frequency within the 458.5 - 458.9MHz band, data transmission of up to 20km can be acheived (with clear line of sight). The receiver unit, supplied with a 3dB antenna, plugs directly into the user's PC and communications are established using Valeport's standard Windows based software packages.
