Tide and Meteorological Monitoring System for The Wash Ports

As reported in Hydro International, Valeport equipment has been selected to provide a Tidal and Meteorological Monitoring, Telemetry & Display System (TMMTDS) to the ports of Boston, King’s Lynn Conservancy Board and Nene Ports - News.

Valeport Equipment Selected for Tidal and Meteorological Monitoring System in The Wash PortsThis Estuary Monitoring System, includes three water level and weather monitoring stations within the estuary, plus a data feed from a monitoring station operated by the UK Environment Agency.

The Valeport Hydrometric Survey Equipment Selected for this Project includes:

VRS-20 Radar Level Sensor:

The VRS-20 is a pulsed k-band radar level sensor has been developed to work seamlessly with the TideMaster tide logger, operate standalone with optional integrated GPRS telemetry or interface to a third party data logger.

It's versatile and simple to install, the VRS-20 addresses a number of the issues traditionally associated with water level measurement.

Non-contact technology removes the installation, corrosion & fouling issues of submerged sensors, while simplifying datum control. Accuracy and performance are unaffected by changes in water density and atmospheric conditions.

System integration for the Project is being provided by Oceanwise and builds on work that they are performing for other UK ports. The project objective is to deliver environmental and operational data which is critical to port operations and compliance and is reliably and easily accessible to all port personnel and wider stakeholders that require it.

Projects like this at The Wash are delivering tangible benefits and are attracting interest from ports and other Maritime Organisations within the UK and Overseas.
