Protecting our Rivers

Rivers are at the heart of healthy landscapes and thriving communities. They provide clean water, support diverse ecosystems, reduce flood risks, and offer spaces for recreation and wellbeing. Yet, many of our rivers face mounting challenges from pollution, habitat loss, and climate change.

At Teledyne Valeport, we recognise the vital role that both inland and marine waters play in sustaining healthy ecosystems and supporting communities. Our long-standing commitment to marine environments has seen us support seagrass conservation charities for many years (read more here).  Building on this legacy, we are now proud to sponsor the Westcountry Rivers Trust, supporting their essential work to restore and protect, the rivers across the South West.

Through this partnership, we aim to raise awareness, inspire action, and help safeguard these precious waterways for generations to come.

Why Rivers Matter

Healthy rivers mean cleaner water, thriving habitats for fish, birds, and insects, and natural flood management that protects local communities. They also provide green and blue spaces where people can relax, recharge, and connect with nature.

Unfortunately, many UK rivers are under threat. Pollution from raw sewage, chemicals, agricultural runoff, and plastic waste is discharged into waterways every day, leaving many rivers in poor ecological health. Our rivers have also been heavily modified, often being straightened, canalised, or culverted, affecting their natural course. Without action, these pressures threaten biodiversity, increase flood risks, and disrupt the delicate balance that healthy waterways provide.

Our Partnership with Westcountry Rivers Trust

We’re proud to sponsor the Westcountry Rivers Trust as part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship. By working with WRT, we are supporting practical solutions, such as citizen science programs, educational workshops, and community engagement initiatives, that empower people to take an active role in river conservation.

Engagement is key to long-term river protection, and our sponsorship places a strong emphasis on educating young people across the Westcountry. By helping the next generation understand how healthy rivers function and why they matter, we hope to inspire future careers in the environmental sector and protect these vital waterways  for years to come.
