Firmware Development Engineer

Location: Totnes, Devon

Job Description

Recent years have seen exceptional growth along with expansion into our third building in Totnes in Devon. Located on the picturesque river dart, the facilities provide a stunning place to work where we design and manufacture a wide range of products. We are seeking to recruit a firmware development engineer to join the R&D department. The position would suit a recent graduate who has gained some real world experience through placements or a recent role. The department is responsible for developing the firmware for a range of underwater products using a wide variety of technologies the latest being a new range Optical products.

The position will focus on the use of C’ for the coding of products although development also uses PYTHON amongst others for testing and evaluation.

In order to be considered for the role of Firmware Development Engineer you will have gained the following skills and experience:

  • You will be formally qualified in either Electronics or computer science, (Degree or Equivalent),
  • Experience of 8,16 & 32 bit microcontrollers
  • Embedded Software Programming in C
  • Experience of Scripting – Python
  • A good understanding of basic hardware and interfacing – SPI, I2C, UART etc
  • Ability to read electronic schematics and component datasheets.
  • Experience of sensor design would be advantageous
  • Familiar with the use of svn for version control
  • The successful applicant will have the ability to self-manage and communicate with internal R&D staff, Test Facilities and directly with the end customers.

Desirable & highly advantageous skills:

  • FreeRTOS
  • FPGA – Experience with vhdl
  • Project Management
  • Experience of sensor design would be highly advantageous.
